RE: Saddles slipping forward.
Er, I don't mean to step on anyones toes here,
but a crupper shouldn't be used to hold a saddle
in place if it doesn't fit in the first place.
Saddles can slip forward if:
1) The saddle fits the horse, but the girth rigging
is too far back of the horses natural girth groove.
The girth creeps up to where it should be and the saddle goes with it. (A crupper will help in this case,
but the rigging should really be in the correct place for the
horse.)
2) The saddle is too narrow, so it sits up on the bottom edge
of the bars, and it'll creep forward (and probably the horse will
be sore.)
3) The saddle is too wide in the wither area (It'll pitch up in the back). It'll move down in front and forward.
A crupper will work if the horse is witherless (and the
saddle fits) or if the horse has low withers, with no depression
or flair to the shoulders (and the saddle fits).
Regards,
Barb
