Re: Panacur Dosage X 2
I did give the Panacur (Safe-Guard) double dose for 5 consecutive days.
BEFORE I did this however, I had a fecal count done to be sure that I wasn't
treating something that didn't need to be done - my mare tested positive for
worms. At the advice of our vet, this is the worming rotation that I am
trying this year:
* Note that the chemical name appears first and the brand name that I used
is in parentheses.
July - 5 consecutive days of a double dose of Fenbendazole (Safe-Guard)
Sept. - Ivermectine (Zimectrin)
Nov. - Pyrantel Pamoate (Rotectin 2)
Jan. - Double Dose Fenbendazole (Safe-Guard)
Mar. - Ivermectin (Equimectrin)
May - Pyrantel Pamoate (Rotectin 2)
The reason that I am following such a strict rotation this year is that in
the past I wormed every 12 weeks with an Ivermectin product. I was leery of
over worming. Since my mare tested positive for worms, I realized that my
schedule wasn't working. After the May worming, I will have a new fecal
count done and decide how to proceed from there. I would also like to add
that during the 5 day, double dose period, my mare showed no adverse
reactions.

Subject: RC: Panacur Dosage X 2
Heidi, Cheryl, Sarah....
Any comments on the recent post recommending dosing with 2x the normal
amount of Panacur wormer for 5 consecutive days as a safe, effective way
to eliminate encysted small strongyles.
Has anyone tried this "recommended method" and, if so, what were the
results?
If Panacur does not have a LD (as noted in the above mentioned post)
does it effect the strongyles in a manner other than poisoning? Guess
what I'm really asking is, how can this wormer not have a LD dosage?
Big thanks,
Laura,
