whips and spurs

I think I gave one answer, by saying that over-use of the whip / spur was
more visible in the other disciplines....
The other factor to consider is that, in the other disciplines, particularly
dressage and jumping, you are dealing with precision riding, and the spur is
an aid, not a method of getting the horse to increase pace. You are dealing
with split-second timing and an immediate response is called for.
Not sure on this one, but aren't whips disallowed for FEI dressage shows, at
least from medium upwards?
