RE: Nomination of Mike Tomlinson DVM for Director-at-Large

I have the following questions:

In your position with AHSA, what kind of influence do you think
you will have on FEI policies with regards to sanctioning? Do you
perceive this as part of your new role with AHSA?

What kind of issue do you think that would become potential conflict
of interests between AHSA and AERC?

Do you believe that FEI sanctioning costs would be the prohibiting
factor for most ride managers to sanction their events with FEI?

Do you have some thoughts about how to increase the number of
FEI sanctioned rides in the U.S. so that international competition
would become more feasible for the talented rider without mega-
moneybags?

Or is it a possibility that FEI could reverse their ruling and
recognize certain AERC events to be FEI qualifiers without
FEI sanctioning? What is your knowledge about the decision
making process at FEI?

You have probably noticed that on RideCamp there was a some
emotion floating around regarding sanctioning, but I don't think
that we are very informed about the subject. Do you foresee
yourself as a "pathfinder" and showing AERC the way through
all the FEI policies and keeping us, the average AERC member,
informed? What will be your method of disseminating such
information?

K.

P.S. I'm kinda stoked about your "cross-pollination!" I'm
sure your job will be real interesting.

Subject: RC: Nomination of Mike Tomlinson DVM for Director-at-Large

Mike is currently serving as Pacific Southwest Regional Director. He
has
moved to Lexington Kentucky to take the Director of International
Programs
position with the American Horse Shows Association. Since he is no
longer
living in the Region he has represented, he has resigned the Regional
Directorship effective at the mid-year Board meeting. There are those
that
feel Mike's employment by another equestrian organization precludes his
being a member of the Board of the AERC. That is up to the membership
to
decide in this election. The cross pollination that the interdependence
between AERC and the AHSA can provide is an exceptional opportunity.
Having
Mike on the Board would facilitate this. In any vote that could be
perceived to be a conflict of interest, Mike would abstain from voting,
as
should any other Director that had any perceived conflict of interest in
any
vote.

Mike has been an active Director, both Regional and At-large, for a
decade
now. He has founded some committees, chaired a few more and been a
member
of even more. He has been active at the local level all the way up to
the
international level. Mike is fully aware that in the pyramid of the
sport,
without a solid base of local rides there cannot be an international
capstone.

Mike was a founding member of Ridecamp, but has taken to lurking for the
past several years. If you have any question as to Mike's views on a
subject, please email him at Mike@Tomlinson.com
