Re: RC: wet weather riding

If you want to test your rain gear, come down to FL and experience riding in one of our deluges. We can get four inches an hour for hours in some of these things. Basically nothing helps but getting out of them.

Down here about the only thing that works is Gortex while it is raining buckets, it is also warm so if you have some type or slicker or oil coat, you'll burn up and be wetter from the sweat than you would from the rain.

I have a basic Grotex jacket I got at REI. I have Gortex Rain paints I got there also. The rain paints go over the boots so at least the water doesn't roll of the paints and down into the boots. I put the collar up on the jacket to keep the water from rolling off the helmet down the back. It has zippers in the armpit to ventilate so you don't steam cook in you own sweat.

The only good thing about riding in a down pour, you know there will be pleanty of trail water for the horse.

Here in NE TX the ground is so dry there are cracks large enough to lose a foot or hoof in) Anyway back to the subject; having been a pampered show rider I've never ridden for any length of time in the rain. I need recomendations as to what you wear and where to purchase it. Also need recomendations for horse rain gear if any is needed.
