First time I was ever introduced to Huckleberry Bey (by Sheila Varian) he
was barefoot in the teasing pasture (mares to be bred in the paddocks next
to him). She called him and he trotted to her. He hadn't had shoes on in
years and his action was breathtaking and totally natural.
We eventually joined the Huckleberry Bey syndicate and had many
opportunities to see Huck "au natural". His action was IN him, not done TO
him. Desperado V, on the other hand, didn't inherit the action, our
observation from the many times we've seen him. Lif
By the way, make no mistake - Sheila Varian is quite the horsewoman. She
doesn't use tricks or shoing - it's a point of pride with her.
