RE: RE: Re: Chiropractors

I've never been to or heard of a chiropracter that says that infectious
disease can be caused by spinal misalignments. And my chiropracter
regularly "nags" me to see my regular doctor for checkups for female
concerns. There is no conflict there. You must have some pretty
whacko chiros in your neck of the woods. Actually, there are probably
some pretty whacko chiros everywhere, just like there are some
pretty whacko doctors everywhere!

I can't really comment on the research aspect. I am suspect of
a lot of research models anyway because they could bend statistics and
methodologies to prove any hypothesis.

No. The conflicts are in the underlying theory of disease - not in my mind.
The underlying theory of chiro is that all diseases are the result of spinal
misalignments and the blockage of nerve paths prevents the body from
healing - and that holds for infections and organic diseases. This stuff is,
as I understand it, taught by the schools (or at least the 'straight'
schools). There is a fundemental conflict between that view of disease and
traditional medicine. That isn't to say that all chiropractors believe it,
or practice it - many (probably most)limit themselves. Nor does it mean
that no chiropractic treatments have a benefit. But the underlying conflict
is still there.

Some alternative practices have a place. But alternative practioners aren't
much into real research. As time goes on, some research will be done and
traditional medicine will adopt those that work. But even if double blind
studies discredit some alternative, many of those practioners will be loath
to move on. When the only tool you are licensed to use is a hammer, screws
begin to look like nails.
