Endurance as a team sport

Could AERC accept Endurance as a team sport?
If no, why not?

1. WEC requires teams.
2. Olympics may require teams. 
3. I do not know of any rule that prevents teams in 
    the AERC rule book. 
4. Some people find team competition more
    enjoyable then individual competition.
5. Teams can share resources. (time, equipment, crews, etc.)
6. PNER supports teams.
