Hi gang - here's some info from a friend of mine in Phoenix. Her name is
Pat and she's looking for someone to ride with who will lease her
horse. The horse would stay on Pat's property. Terms are below - they are
very reasonable. This is pleasure trail riding, not endurance!
If you are interested, please contact Pat directly at pwolter@email.msn.com
>I charge $100 a month, and their only responsibility is to groom the horse
>and tack her up when we ride. I take care of all the rest, daily care,
>food, vetting, farrier, etc. So, really, it is a good deal when
>you consider if you own your own horse, the boarding alone is more than
>that, plus you have all the additional expenses.
>
>She is a good trail horse, a Bar N mare that came from the Navajo
>Reservation. Therefore, she has Mustang, Morgan and Quarter Horse in her.
>She is so smart that I have to chain the gates or she opens them. She has
>good ground manners (won't have a horse that doesn't) and no bad habits.
>She likes a rider that is not "green broke" or she will toss her head and
>try to get the bit in her mouth and run (not far as she would not leave
>the horse I ride). My friend that rode her for four years with me (moved away),
>but she had ridden hunter jump when she was a young girl, so she was
>actually a better rider than I was. She did well with Kizhin and would
>not let her get away with the bit and running so she is even better
>behaved now. However, she is like all horses, they will test the waters to
>see what they
>can get away with sometimes.
>
>Both my horses are 19 or 20 years young. Young enough to have some umph
>and old enough to have some trail sense. My pens are 16 x 32 and open to
>a paddock, so they can always run and cruise around and not feel "penned
>in." Plus every weekend they are let out on the pasture to graze and kick
>up their heels if they feel like it, so they are never nuts like so many
>that are left in small pens week after week.
>
>Oh, I draw up an actual lease so there are no misunderstandings on
>anyone's part. I am picky about the care of my animals, otherwise, I am
>great (G).
