re;strange gait

I worked with a trainer for close to ten years, who did lots and lots of 
round pen work. I still do some. Many, many horses do that "rabbit thing" 
you describe, until they learn to balance, carry themselves, and  canter 
around calmly in the pen.  My two year old will do that too, until I get her 
to relax, settle down, and then she can pick up the correct lead. It goes 
away.
