SLEEP DEPRIVATION
It is 18h36, Thursday 7 September
2000. I have been awake since 05h30 on Tuesday 5 September 2000. I
have been at office since 07h30 today. Everyone else has gone home.
I am scared to go home as am convinced that brain will switch off somewhere
between office and home and I will wrap car around pole. Pole will
probably be okay, after some physiotherapy. Not so little Korean car or
self.
Or baby finches sleeping in box below
my desk, who are blessedly quiet, having spent the entire day yelling their
heads off for food. Next time a smug mother tells me I "don't know
what I'm missing" as I don't have children, I will ensure that she is added
to my list of People To Phone At Three In The Morning Next Time I Am
bottle-feeding a guinea pig / puppy / kitten or walking a colicky horse, or
helping a rabbit give birth, or suffering from pre-Show / Exam
insomnia.
The list is quite long at the
moment. Almost as long as my Idiot List.
I have been off work since
Friday. I have caught up with everything, including vetting a four page
expert affidavit involving the sale of wood, and why the nasty person on the
other side is lying when he says that aforesaid wood was bad. Is clear
from expert affidavit that offending wood is, in fact, perfectly acceptable, and
nasty other person on other side is a heinous villain, trying to defraud my
sainted client.
I have also dealt with all 968 emails
which awaited me upon my return. Apart from the one by the girl asking me
why Hormone Therapy is evil. I know that this question has arisen as a
result of some spurious comment I made on some obscure forum somewhere, but I
can't for the life of me remember where, when or why, and am perforce obliged to
retain aforesaid email in my inbox until the memory surfaces, whereupon I will
dispatch usual concise, detailed, thought-provoking response. Until then,
I'll just avoid the issue altogether.
Why am I telling you this? No
idea, apart from to request any and everyone who might be reading it to offer
suggestions as to how I can get some sleep.
Note : reading a boring book DOES NOT
WORK. It irritates Mark as I wake him up to complain about how boring the
book is, and to complain about the fact that the novelist is actually making
money out of it, whilst the likes of self is, as yet, unpublished. Apart
from on the internet, which doesn't count, as I don't get paid for
it.
Gotta stay off the coke.
