Re: RC: Helmet integrity

Supposed to be 5 years.

Not for a fall from a horse. They are designed to withstand the specific forces involved in riding falls.

The two most important things are ASTM/SEI certification, and FIT. Comfort is 3rd. Price is not all that relevant, except to the extent that it affects fit and comfort. We do a "yes" and "no" test. Put the helmet on the kid: they nod "yes, my helmet fits" and shake "no it won't come off" and it should not wiggle at all, without the chinstrap fastened. THEN they can adjust & fasten it snugly.

Should have manufacture dates stamped on the SEI label.

>I have a 5 year old helmet and am concerned....would appreciate some advice.

Time for a new one.
