Just a another view, I am just starting to ride endurance and yes, will do
limited distance to acquaint my young horses to the discipline. Both of
mine are five. However, I also anticipate doing LD's for an extended period
of time because as a working stiff who only gets a limited amount of ride
time, LD's will be the best way for me to enjoy the sport without overfacing
my horse if we aren't getting the proper amount of conditioning done due to
my work schedule. I think the 60 month age requirement is an excellent
idea.

Not all horses doing LD are 4 yr. olds. Not all riders can do multi-day 50s.
Older horses probably make up a much larger percentage than 4 yr. olds do in
LDs. Personally, I'm not up to doing a multi-day 50, but a multi-day LD,
whole other ball game.
Geez, I sure wish people would stop looking at LDs only as training rides or
as a starting point for longer distances. For some horses and riders, it's
what they like to do best, for what ever their reason may be.
