We used to do a lot of these by hanging a "wooden gate" on an overhead
cable. Of course, that is heavy--but what about making a "gate" out of 2"
PVC pipe---capping the ends so water wouldn't fill the pipe (and it would
float) and hang it from the overhead wire/cable/whatever ? It would be
highly visible but light enough to float when the floods came, and heavy
enough to hang down during dry times. It even comes with 45-degree angle
connectors if you have to run "uphill" just a bit on the ends. Space the
pipes a foot or two apart and hold all sections together with wire. The
bottom pipe should float first, dragging the rest with it, out of (most of)
the debris. Just an idea. Claudia
