Dead/Alive -TEVIS RESCUE Part 2
I have been getting very very hard questions about the
rescue efforts. That is the problem. Many riders like
myself- are under the impression some sort of Search
and Rescue was available. I was prepared to pay if
necessary, cuz thats what is in the Rider Handbook.
There was not. NOT a rumor. I am not flaming nor
knife throwing. I have been in contact with the
board, and about rectifying the problem. THERE was no
process!- I was specifically told that by several
board members on Sunday and on days following,
including a VP. In fact I was told they did not have
a name of an agency or could not provide any
assistance to locate some help. That's why I am
sharing and was encouraged to do so.
I reported to the radio control in Foresthill I went
off the trail and needed help to locate my horse-They
knew of the incident , gave me a chair and I guess we
were waiting for some sort of help. I and my friend
called the Auburn Sheriff to have the airborne copter
go out with infrared lights- it was too hazy. (Tues-I
was subsequently told I would have to pay for it, as I
relayed my story to a board member-I KNOW that- I
would have paid a repeller and ham guy if I could find
one) I was told that nothing could be done til light
of day.
As some of the vicious email I have gotton-Perhaps
those individuals on the board I spoke too thought I
was on some leased horse, I went to a hotel in Sacto
for my comfort! ( there was no room In
Auburn-Penryn,Rocklin, or Roseville) I don't know why
they couldn't help me -give me a name or etc. THIS
INFORMATION IS BEING SHARED SO YOU CAN BE AWARE,
INSTEAD OF ASSUMING SOMETHING IS IN PLACE!
My crew and I do not have repelling gear, ham radios,
chainsaws etc.- or know how to operate them. That
helpful info was given to me Sunday morn by board
members. Board members and the Drags on Saturday night
explained the terrain was bad at that point in the
trail and we would need special gear. For all those
who have been wondering why I did not go hopping down
the precipice, first of all- the trail was very narrow
and there was a ride happening, and was very dangerous
for others coming down cuz they couldn't see me cuz of
the switchbacks. Secondly, I couldn't see my horse
from above, nor did he respond to me, nor did I hear
any movement. There was no room for me on the trail
for riders to pass, I have received many emails from
the riders that passed me- they know how dangerous it
was at that point
I could go on- but to end it here- be aware and ask at
the ride meeting about specifics- tel numbers etc.
regarding a rescue process. I will always do that
now. And I am working with the board and privates to
have something in place.
Thank you all
