Re: Shoe wear vs. miles ridden
Thanks Vickie for taking the time to share this with me. I have heard
and seen people do this process. One of the things that I find is, that if
your riding your horse a lot then the demand for growth seems to increase.
So our horses have good growth in about 5 weeks. Or so it seems...
But, I really don't like my horses to go much longer than 5 weeks. I
like to keep their feet about the same in length and size as much as
possible. I find that longer, then shorter lengths, are a stress factor. My
son, Levi Robinson is our farrier and so it is not a problem for getting him
to do Mom & Dads horses :o)
Since we do (haven't much this year with new ranch and all) a lot of
100's and multiday rides we foam on Easyboots over shoes anyway. Been doing
this now about 3 - 4 years on the same horses. So this also is a way to
prevent wear during longer events.
Thank you again for you thoughts!
