fast 50's in the 70's

way back then anything over 38-40 miles was considered a 50 and some regions were notorious for short courses.  there was even one time on a 100 i was at 70 miles or so and was given clearance by the vets to continue and pulled my horse because i didn't trust them to treat him if he got a problem.
