Having had things lost or damaged at least as often by the USPS and by FedEx, 
I'd say that if you don't want to take the minimal risk that something will 
get lost or damaged, you can always deliver it in person...  Of course, you 
could also get in a car wreck or be on the latest Concorde out of Paris, 
too...
