I'd just like to add that the primary objective of dressage is to train your
horse to carry itself in such a manner that the least stress is placed on
the joints, bones and tendons. By doing this, you can then teach your horse
to do anything - from jumping a six foot oxer to pelting hell for leather
after a bunch of hounds, to going 100 miles across rugged terrain, and your
horse will be obedient, balanced, and comfortable. It is a tremendous
launching pad for any discipline.
Pity its so damn boring!!!
