Once again, a very clear, concise and intelligent post--you are one of the

One point, tho: You said

I think it is pretty generally perceived that Tevis is
"special"--especially prestigious, because is it especially difficult. Do
you not think that attempting Tevis calls for a little more focused
preparation than "any other 100 worth the same points"?
Perhaps someone seriously trying for high mileage would be better off
AVOIDING Tevis, in favor of easier rides...
