Are you sure you insulted your farrier and that he is now mad
at you?

Just curious.  Because it is possible that he is not mad at all,
and he won't let you pay him or take him to lunch because for
him it was "no big deal."  

If it were me, I would just ignore it, and it will probably go 
away. Even if you did insult him and he is now mad at you (i.e.
he really is a "princess"), it will, probably, work fine to 
just be oblivious.
