I should think the big muscle masses would present a problem in heat dispersal.

Some quarterhorses are too big-butted for much distance work becasue of
this problem.  They don't cool out well.

I guess it would depend on the horse, the rider, the climate and the terrain.

But then, doesn't it always?  :)
