I was under the impression that a Jake brake required an additional
cylinder in the engine. An exhaust break is an add on with retards the
exhaust and slow the engine RMP which slows the truck. I belive all the
engine brakes on small trucks are actually exhaust brakes, but the
common term for this type of braking (using the engine exhaust) has
become known Jake brakes.

So here everyone is right.
