Mary Anne, First of all, if my horse needed antibiotics, then I think he'd be too sick to take to a competition. I wouldn't worry about withdrawal times and drug testing. If you are asking with an eye towards how long a dose is effectively in the body to fight the infection, I'll refer you to Tobin, "Drugs & the Performance Horse", 1981. NOTE - these are not the times to non-detectable amounts in the blood - just sub-therapeutic levels. Drug/therapeutic blood level/approx. time to sub therapeutic level Penicillin/0.1-0.2 mcg/ml/12 hrs Ampicillin/--/6-8 hrs Gentamicin/1 mcg/ml/8 hrs Oxytetracycline / 1-2mcg/ml/24 hrs Chloramphenicol/5mcg/ml/6 hrs Sulfonamides/>50 mcg/ml/12-14 hrs I hope that these help. I really treasure Tobin as a resource. If you ever see it for sale, try to pick it up!
