Hey Bev, 

 He probably has an attitude because he hates that bit!  Just imagine it in 
your mouth!  A broken bit with shanks and a curb chain can only squeeze the 
lower mouth. Ouch!  What other bits have you tried? Also consider a dental 
exam.  How far along is he in his training?  Was he started in that bit? I'm 
sure others will comment on the subject of bits and stallion behavior. Good
