Re: Re: fly control
Hi, Pat. Glad someone else thinks as I do. Our Summers are very hot and
wet, and flies are a huge problem, and I have found the only answer to be
fastidious cleaning of stables and paddocks. My stables are mucked out
every day, and the shavings swept up the walls and disinfectant applied to
the floor. When the horses come in out of the heat between 12 and 3,
droppings are picked up every half hour (if necessary) in the stables.
Other tips : break off pieces of lavender and sprinkle in your shavings.
Plant basil and mint in pots around the stable. Keep chickens near the
stable (they go after any tiny bits of manure which you miss).
Good luck guys. We're in winter now, and the only good thing about it is :
no flies, no mosquitoes, no midges. No RAIN.
Tracey
