I think the key to the one rein stop is to disengage the hind end. I have
had to do this a couple of times and pretty soon the runaway, decides to stop
as soon as you lift the rein more on one side. I also, think this is best
practiced before getting into the runaway situation, but I would not hesitate
to use it under any circumstances. Now as a kid, before I knew about one rein
stops, I had a horse run like crazy at a dead run, I darn sure wasn't going
to bail off, we were going through an orange grove, it was good footing. At
the end of the row of trees was very LARGE Catholic church. I did say I was
very young and stupid, but I aimed him for the church wall. He stopped, it
was a little rough, but it was a stop. Do you think the church had anything
to do with it? <VBG>
