portable water pump

The latest fad in my neighborhood is to have a barrel of water and a
portable water pump in back of your truck. It's wonderful to come back
to your truck after a ride, hook the little clamps from the pump on your
truck battery and *bingo* you've got a hose with a spray nozel to hose
down your horse. Seems like all my friends have gotten one, and though I
resisted the urge to "keep up with the Joneses" when they all bought
aluminum trailers, this is something I WANTED.

Well, I turned 40 last week, and for a birthday gift Bill got me the
PUMP!!! (knows how to thrill and endurance riding woman) I've looked all
over it to see if there are different sizes, but don't see anything
indicating horse power or anything like that. The pump I got is called
"The Little Giant" from Tecumseh Products Company. The way my friends
have rigged theirs is that they fixed up a little toolbox and mounted the
pump in it permanently. When they want to use it they just get it out of
the truck, drop the input hose into the tank and the outgoing hose has
the sprayer.

My question. Has anybody got any advice for hooking up this thing? What
about different sizes of pumps (how do I know if this is powerful
enough?) Right now we have a plastic water barrel which Bill made a
stand for so it won't roll in back of the truck. It has two threaded
openings on top. He plans to just open the top one and run the hose down
in it. I thought we might want to get a screw on faucet and hook the
hose to that (but it wouldn't work once the water got below that level.)

I was also curious about rigging up some sort of "plug in" so that I
didn't have to pop the hood every time I used it and maybe could plug it
up from the bed. Any ideas?
