Sorry, in the interest of keeping my post short, I did leave out the part
about once the horse figures out what you want it to do, you work on
rounding his back. I don't like hollow backs, either, but that is how I was
taught to get a non-gaited breed to gait. Also, this was 20+ years ago.
(When I was extremely young<G>).

I had the pleasure of watching a man ride my gelding's sire, once. This was
a registered Morgan, not a breed known for being gaited. With no visible
cues, in a Western saddle, the horse would show you the difference between a
rack and a singlefoot, then give a great big saddlebred trot! All of this he
did barefooted. And he was a little horse, too. His name was Great Oak's
Heritage. Awesome horse.
Last I heard, he was still standing at stud. Ol' Bubba is 18, so he's in his
20's, I think.
