RE: Re: Re: Netiquette sillies

Spam is junk email. When a website gets "spammed", it's been the target of
a bulk email campaign, where a company has created an email for marketing
(or other) purposes and then sends it to a billion email addresses,
especially those addresses where they know a lot of people will receive it,
like an email list server such as ridecamp. Unfortunately, a lot of the
spam is pornographic or undesireable and unsuitable for the younger readers
on ridecamp (and very annoying for the rest of us).

Since spam doesn't really cost anything (there's no postage or labor cost),
it allows these spam generating companies to sit there day after day and
churn the stuff out. When your internet service provider (ISP) sends an
email to all of its subscribers describing it's latest special offer, that's
also spam, but a more directed version of it - it's a "bulk mailing" to it
membership.

it's that mystery meat made outof chopped up pig intestines and various road
kill---formed into little bricks and packaged in cute little cans that you
need a key to open...people thentake a paper thin slice of the stuff, put it
through their scanner and e-mail the result...ergo..SPAM.....
In other words...I don't know what it is either and have been too
embarrassed to ask!
