RE: RE: grabsaddle
I had a good laugh when I saw the gizmo!! I couldn't even believe it!
I had volunteered for a NAHRA (handicapped riders program) for a couple of
years. It somewhat defeats the purpose of the therapy. One of our cerebral
palsy kids made if from having a backrider to happily "bouncing" at the
trot. I had seen a lot of riders really improve their coordination and
balance skills in this program. Volunteer sidewalkers are a lot safer then
strapping a kid on the horse, and they are still allowed the benefit of the
hippotherapy.

I have the same feeling about this type of gadget that I have about
people
in my area (rodeo/playday country) rubber banding their kid's feet into
the
stirrups. If you are this desperate for safety measures, get a new
hobby.
I class helmets completely differently. The helmet isn't helping me sit
my
horse better, it's just making sure I live long enough to recognize my
mistakes. <G> And irregardless of whether or not you could post/two
point
in this thing, won't having your legs forced into one position for the
whole
ride be uncomfortable?
Besides, I thought "statistics" showed that HELMETS prevented horse
related
deaths, how could the manufacturer know if this gizmo really works?
I see this as being sold to over-protective parents...
Now as a use for therapeutic riding, I could see it. A young girl with
cerebral palsy rides in my playday club who uses a Velcro "seatbelt"
thingy
and handhold strap to help her stay upright.

Found this while doing a net search for equestrian safety sites.

Has anybody on RC seen or used this product and/or do you have any
response
to
it as a "safety device" for riding in general and endurance
specifically?
