I've ridden both Arabs and gaited horses and Special has none of the quirks or "sensitivities" that I always had to be aware of when riding any of the Arabs that I've met to this point.

I've ridden mostly Arabs, but have also ridden gaited horses.  A good horse is a good horse.  If a horse has lots of traits that are required for endurance riding/racing then it doesn't matter what the breed is IF that horse fulfills one more requirement, and that is that the rider and horse have to get along.  I have ridden horses, including Arabs in races I didn't like, and it was not a fun thing to do.

Anyone who has a bond with a horse is going to want to do stuff with that horse rather than another - and if the stuff is endurance, well great, and even better if the horse happens to be suited in other ways for the demands of the sport!

By the way, I found a cool site on the internet that pays an author when his/her article is read & rated by a reader. It's themestreams.com. I submitted an article about choosing an endurance horse/personality based on a post to this list I wrote earlier - it's at http://www.themestream.com/articles/82537.html and I'd sure appreciate it if you went & read it & rated it - of course I'd like you to rate it "excellent"!  Lif
