That may be more of an illusion than a reality. The horses rate is very
low to start with compared to humans so percentage wise the change may be
about the same. Say you start with a horse with a HR of 30 and lower it
goes to 27 with a year of training. That would be a 10% change. Now
start with a human with a 72 HR and a 10% change would be 7bpm or down to
65. So while it may seem the human's heart rate has been lowered more
than the horse it really hasn't.
