Florida Greenways Trails
Laura Nielsen lsn@bellsouth.net
Florida Greenways Trails, south of Ocala, Florida is a relatively
new area of trails open to equestrians.
Volunteers have cleared and marked miles of trails, some offering
varied terrain. It is one of the few places in the state that
has "hills" (at least to us flat-landers <bg>).
What is missing, however, is a permanent Trailhead. The main
Trailhead is planned for the west end of Utopia off of Route 200.
If the trailhead is adequately planned, these trails have the
potential for an endurance ride.
Please take a few minutes and write expressing your use of the
trails and the need for an equestrian parking & camping area to:
Mr. Mickey Thomason
Office of Greenways and Trails
8282 SE Highway 314
Ocala, FL 34470
AND
Mr. Rich Noyes
Marion County Parks & Recreation Dept.
8282 SE Highway 314
Ocala, FL 34470
The above information was taken from an article in Horse & Pony,
May 3, 2000 written by Celeste Gavin, Morriston, FL. Celeste
has cleared and permanently marked many of the trails in the
Greenways areas known as Christmas, Shangrila and Utopia.
Please send in those letters!!
Thanks,
Laura Nielsen
