Subject: RC: Nine Pocket Ice Boots
I have been really happy with 9 pocket Thoroughbred ice boots. When placed
on the front legs of most Arabians, one can fill each pocket (up to the
knee)
with ice.
I then, using a three or four gallon sprayer (one not previously used on
weeds, preferably) filled with ice water, spray down inside and completely
around the leg/ice boots.
The spraying, if down every five minutes or so, will result in a cooled
leg (soft tissue down to the joints) in about forty-five minutes.
Replace ice cubes as needed.
If the ice boots are used without the sprayer, I (like Bob Morris
stated), just as soon not put them on the horse, as the heat builds up very
rapidly beneath the neoprene.
This protocol has worked very well, particularly at multi-days.
One must be meticulous and religiously spray the water down into the
boots. ("Religiously", as in, God, I'd like to sit down and take a break,
but not until I've taken care of these legs...)
Frank.
