RE: Trucks Beware
Kirsten kb@legato.com
I know everyone has their own opinions on trucks, so a quite note of feedback if you are looking to purchase.
After 5 years of a hellacious experience and lack of support on our truck, I would recommend that you first look at the service from the dealer and the company. Our Ford F250, 3/4 ton, gas engine, was ordered new from Fremont Ford in California. It pulls a three horse well with 2 horses, it does seem to bog a little with 3 horses. It was the biggest mistake of our lives. At 22,000 we had to have a frame replacement (approximately $17,000) worth of repairs and a month out of service. On an ongoing basis we have had little if any support from the dealer. We tried to take it to another dealer, but if we live within 40 miles of the original dealer it had to go back to that dealer for service. It was a never ending cycle, just getting scarrier by the episode.
Now at 93,000 miles and Ford has paid almost double the cost of the truck in warranty work. I guess they can spend their money any way they want, but you think they would be smart enough to not put that much money into fixing it. Everything has been replaced at this point. But I can guarantee that our next vehicle will be a Dodge. I have talked 3 people out of purchasing Fords until they decide to support the products they produce.
After discussion with Ford in Michigan, they do not offer anything to help or assist in situations like these, even towards the purchase of another Ford.
All I have to say is be thorough and make sure you are dealing with a reputable dealer.
