atrial fibulation - could be a red alert
stacy stacy.a.berger@intel.com
My long time, successful endurance horse was noted to
have an atrial fibulation at the post ride check. The first
vet noted an irregular heart rate. He called over a second vet,
who is on the UC Davis staff - she recommended that I take
the horse in for an EKG on Monday. 2 other vets then listened,
all did not know what was going on, but advised me to take him in for an EKG - that it appeared to be an atrial fibulation. He was sound, lots of energy, A's on hydration (I
have the vet card). The vets gave us a completion because he looked awesome, and had been doing well all day long - although we were not fit to continue based on his heart problems.
He died that night in the pasture. It was likely a heart attack.
