It has always amazed me how horses sense people with special needs. My husband is a remedial therapist and I once watched in fascination when one of his "kiddies" came with me to feed the horses. All four horses ignored me (and the food) and surrounded this kid, completely entranced. He had no idea how to react and made every novice mistake in the book (squealing, arms waving, patting hard, etc) but these horses just lapped it up.
