RE: off trail, short cuts and cheating!

I know that at most rides there is a definite shortage of volunteers,
but can't there be some way to set up a surprise number check in the
most likely places for people to cut trail?  Or, do you think that as
soon as you set someone up in one place, cheaters will find another
place to cut?  I was thinking about the story Rhonda told about the
riders using a shortcut on a loop they shouldn't have.  Couldn't ride
management put a volunteer at the head of the shortcut to make sure no
one took that route on the wrong loop?  And, they could even do it
politely in that situation, "reminding" riders.

     Just a thought.
