Re: Equine mastitis
Jenny: I had an old mare that had masitis with a foal. Woo Hoo...she was hard to treat, but the infection cleared up in a week. We had to
insert a syringe of antibiotics into the infected teat twice a day. Old Dee hated that part, and we had to tie up one foot and twitch her
before the medicine could be inserted. Then I had to milk out her bag--that was also painful at first. However, the medicine worked like a
charm and she was fine in just a few days. She lived to have one more foal, but no masitits with that one.
We fed the foal at her side with Foal-Lac during treatment. He picked up nursing his mama again when she felt comfortable and was not in
pain. Hope this helps. I do not remember what antibiotic was used.
