Actually, Steve has left them in the truck with all sorts of groceries, fast
food, etc....and this is the first thing that either one of them has ever
touched since before Kali was born and it was Katie and the old lady, Kira. 
They go for rides with him in the truck every day so this is not a new thing. 
Could be that Steve always serves them a "training table meal" after they go
out on the training rides with us...consists of rice and leftover meat of some
kind all cooked together!!  Hmmm...bag-o-rice-already-chewed!!
