Can you say tent?
I've been lurking about this thread and have been waiting to hear from those
of you with minimal comforts. I sort of sit in the middle of this debate. I
don't want to have to care for a "living quarters/camper". I also don't want
to have to "set up" camp when I arrive at a ride. I travel by myself - no
crew. I haul a 3 horse aluminum slant GN with 1 horse. No living quarters -
just a dressing room with a mattress in the GN. And a Coleman lantern, heater
and stove. My portable electric fence (for after the ride - he stays tied at
night) I added an awning because its nice to have a dry place to stand
outside when it rains non stop.
I generally rely on ridecamp food but I do pack a cooler with finger foods.
I always keep backup "cup o soups" for cold/wet rides.
I started doing this sport in '91 with a 1/2 t. truck/cap and a 2 horse King
trailer. Slept in the back of the truck but had to empty it into the empty
trailer first. And sometimes the cap leaked.
I don't need a lot of amenities but I draw the line with needing a soft dry
place to sleep. A solar shower takes care of the clean up and if it's too
cold to venture a complete shower, then I heat water on my Coleman stove and
do a bucket bath. For me and the horse.
This has worked for me for the last 5 years and I'm completely happy with the
arrangement. Not a lot of cost but a few creature comforts.
Sallie and Matty (who has been known to camp INSIDE his trailer when it rains
too)
