red tails and kicking

I have 2 stories to share. The first was a HUGE mistake I made on a ride I 
came upon two ladies ahead of me. No matter how hard I pulled yanked and 
tried to tuck my horses nose in she would NOT keep it out of the horses in 
front of us. I kept apologizing for her even tried stopping and letting them 
get ahead. Baru would POWERWALK to catch up. Sure enough the horse did kick. 
She never apologized (I didn't blame her) I was naive enough to say guess 
you need to wear a red ribbon in his tail. She said rather curtly that I 
didn't need one till now! I kept my apologies up until I was able to pass.
The second was I rode a mare for a gentleman she was a quarter horse. 
Granddaughter of Whimpy. She was a rather pain to ride. I went on a trail 
ride to get her around other horses and learn to behave. Well a young fellow 
on the cutest little pony. All ponies are supposed to be cute. Came hauling 
up behind us.I rode with a red ribbon. The little fellow was trying to pass 
us when I heard the Father in the background telling his son to stop. He 
asked his son if he knew what the red ribbon meant. The little boy said no 
and the father set him straight.
Here comes the best part. The mare when kicked just a bit farther behind the 
girth would kick out like a rocket. Fathers brother proceeded to attempt to 
correct the boy and say THAT horse don't kick!
I was rather miffed at that. Safety first you know. I reached down to double 
check my tack and "accidentally" got my heel to far behind the girth and 
WHOOPSY Whinny kicked out. I told him I was sooooo sorry that's why I rode 
with a red ribbon. He never said to much during that trail ride. kinda 
looked like the bully who got beaten.
