Barb Peck bpeck@together.net bpeck@together.net I quote from " Gaits, Balance & Movement" by S. Harris 1993, page 76 "Once in motion, the center of gravity (CG) is never quite still, but makes small or large fluctuations with each phase of the stride. The horses balance in motion is dynamic, not static. However, his CG can be said to be in an average position.... Changes of direction, speed and terrain cause greater shifts in the CG as the horse moves" A drawing on page 140 of a horse (being ridden) shows a horse decending a steep grade, hind end definitely enagaged and braking, the back is not level (actually the back looks closer to parallel to the slope) and the CG is pretty close to the CG position of a horse standing. For what it's worth..... Barb Ý-Ý-Ý-Ý-Ý-Ý-Ý-Ý-Ý-Ý-Ý-Ý-Ý-Ý-Ý-Ý-Ý-Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
