Hi Kirsten!  NATRC is holding a ride in March in the San Diego area (have to 
look up the date).  Would be a great introduction to distance riding for a 
young horse.  There are basically two distance divisions.... one will be 
approx. 20 miles and one will be  around 30 miles.  The ride is called The 
First of Spring and is usually held mid-March.  Check out the NATRC web-page 
and see what you think.  The address is http://natrc.trailriding.com/     
There are also several other NATRC rides throughout the season that would be 
interesting for you (in the San Diego are and beyond).  We're hoping to have 
a ride in Arizona again in 2001 (have had it in the past, but.....welllllll 
anybody in Arizona want to jump in here and volunteer to host a ride?
