Re: RC: downhill at speed

Hi Truman!
Ah yes, also in my younger days (&, like yours, not so very long
ago...!) Me, my (then) husband, along with his med school roomate & his wife
were priviledged to be among the first tourists/trekkers (not mountain
climbers) allowed in Nepal. On our way there, we spent a week in Japan
during which we climbed Mt. Fuji. Nina, the other woman of our 4some, got
altitude sickness (coming from Chicago!) and wandered off the trail as we
were coming down. She had started ahead of the rest of us and by the time
we realized that she had a real problem we didn't know where she was. The
fastest way down the mountain was to "ski" down the scree slope until we
caught up with her. What fun, except that we were really worried about
her! She was OK and never had the problem again, thank goodness because we
then spent 30 days trekking in Nepal where our worst problem was usually
finding an appropriate potty spot, especially above treeline!
Maybe its my "conformation" but I've always thought down was a whole lot
easier than up!
Cheers, Laney
