RE: up or down hill
My vote is for uphill if I have a choice. For starters, a fall downhill on
horseback is likely to be a serious event, even taking out others below.
I run trails on foot and my body can't handle nearly as much downhill. The
uphills may make me muscle sore in the following days, but my joints do
much better. The key on downhills is smoothness and balance, moving flatly
OVER the ground... not jamming into it or bouncing while attempting to
control speed.
