Re: RC: Advertising your backyard stallion..
Kim - I went to the page you provided the link for. It
appears that the paint stallion is registered, and soon will be double
registered. The site doesn't mention whether the TB stallion is
registered (but I bet it is with a name like that), but many of the other
horses she has offered for sale are registered. I think the person
is guilty of rotten photography more than anything else. I do agree
that the standardbred mare looks to be in pretty sorry condition, but
note that the web site offers "All mares sell with the option
of a free breeding to one of my stallions, either Patch of dice or mill
reef classic" so really, the only people who could be guilty of
irresponsible breeding would be the buyer of a mare who chose to breed,
don't you think?
HOWEVER, this brings up a good point, that is, why breed? What are
the goals of the breeder? It appears that many, many people have
only one goal - to produce a live foal. While *I* would not breed
any of the mares offered for sale to any of the stallions offered at
stud, it would be because I have other goals as a breeder (this is all in
past tense for me, of course). Of course, anyone who simply wanted
to produce a foal (genetics be damned) wouldn't probably buy a mare from
this site anyway, because the prices are actually pretty high.
