Well, in this case it wasn't a spiral fracture, just a green stick fracture, initially, and the cause was clearly apparent--the horse cantered into a pile of dirt at the side of the trail while the rider was reaching for a bottle of water. It's like driving--no matter what you are doing, always keep one eye on the road.
