Re: RC: seems like a form letter to me

I was at this ride, and I was also one of the people
who got a ticket, and I also talked to Bob Willamson
on the phone Monday. The thing that gets me, is that
when I came in about 1:00p.m. Friday before the ride I
was the one who had to ask the ranger at the gate what
the signs ment, he wouldn't of said a thing to me if I
hadn't asked. (they were all paper signs made on a
copier in a hurry and suck up with tape) He said only
self contained vehicles were allowed to camp. O.K. I
asked him if I was all right. He looked and said that
I should be fine. So I paid for my camp, and off I
went. I drive a Ford truck with a old camper shell
pulling a three horse trailer. At the ride meeting
that night the subject came up about camper shells,
and again the ranger said she thought that would be
fine. The rangers did come around during the day, and
told people who they thought were illegally camp that
they were going to have to move or make other
arrangements, but no one said a word to me. So off I
go to bed, thinking all is well. NOT!!!! Around
11:00p.m. Ranger Randy Trefry #724 banged on the
side of my camper shell and told me I was camping
illegally, to show some I.D., get out of my truck,
gave me a ticket, and told me to leave, but my trailer
and horse could stay. I tried to tell him that the
other rangers said I was o.k., but he didn't want to
hear it. There was a camp set up by ride management
for people who were not self contained, but at this
point Ranger Trefry said I couldn't go there either,
because I would still be sleeping in the back of my
truck. Now what!! While this was all going on,
(there was a crowd of people now) the second ranger,
(who was the one that gave the ride meeting that
night) came up and apologized to me, saying that she
thought that the camper shells were o.k. and that she
didn't know what Ranger Trefry was thinking. (It seems
that every ranger had their own definition of what was
self contained.) Well that doesn't help me much. I
ended up sneaking back and sleeping in my dressing
room of my horse trailer with the windows covered, and
my door locked. I still can't believe I had to do
that. The sad thing about all this is that most of us
had to drive a long ways just to get there, and even
if we wanted to fight the ticket we would have to
drive all the way back and go to court. Not to many
of us have that kind of time. I hope everyone takes
advantage of e-mail and let's them know how we feel
about how we were treated. Now I'll get off my soap
box.
